Republican Kevin McCarthy will leave the US Congress

The former leader of the House of Representatives in the United States, Kevin McCarthy, has said that he will retire from Congress at the end of December. McCarthy, 58, made this announcement on Wednesday to the American daily Wall Street Journal.

He said that he has decided "to leave the House of Representatives at the end of the year, to serve America in other ways".

McCarthy, a Republican, was ousted as the leader of this chamber of Congress in October, in revolt among some members of his own party.
