The US is asking Montenegro to extradite the founder of the cryptocurrency Terra

The US Securities and Exchange Commission, known as the SEC, has requested the Montenegrin authorities to extradite the defendant Hyeong Do Kwon, the Korean citizen accused by the United States of cryptocurrency fraud.

Accused Do Kwon allegedly caused more than $40 billion in losses as a result of the collapse of the company that founded the cryptocurrency Terra.

He was arrested by the Montenegrin police at Podgorica airport while traveling to Dubai with a forged passport. There was an international arrest warrant for him.

According to the Montenegrin Ministry of Justice, the US Commission has also asked Montenegrin officials to interrogate the accused Do Kwon until October 13 to comply with civil proceedings in the United States.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a lawsuit against Do Kwon in New York court.

Do Kwon's arrest caught the attention of the world public, as he is one of the most wanted people accused of a cryptocurrency scam./voa
