The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted against Prime Minister Edi Rama's decision to declare an Islamic state in Albania.

Through a Facebook post, Berisha called this act a stab in the back for the Muslim faith and a major anti-national act.

The Democratic Party, Berisha stressed, will stand strongly in defense of religious tolerance and will rigorously respect the principle of separation of state and religion. He also guaranteed the Bektashis and all religious communities in Albania that this political force will not recognize such acts that conflict with national interests.
