Floods/ Çupi: The government and the municipalities of Vlorë,

The deputy of the DP, Dhurata Çupi, accuses the government and the municipalities of Vlora, Tirana, Durrës, Lezhë, Shkodër, etc. that they have failed to invest in the proper infrastructure for the management of the sewage system and underground infrastructure.

In a post on Facebook, she points out that the lack of transparency in the management of emergency funds and the damage caused to the local economy are worsening the lives of citizens. It calls for an investigation of the relevant institutions and for local and central authorities to be held accountable.

Post:

First of all, I wish and pray that there will
be no loss of people and animals as little as possible from the floods.
The floods in these municipalities have the name of the municipality and the government.
I say this because:
The government and the municipalities of Vlorë, Tirana, Durrës, Lezhë, Shkodër, etc. have failed to invest in the proper infrastructure for the management of the sewage system and underground infrastructure.
The lack of sewers, embankments, or protective works that would stop flooding are peripheral priorities or do not exist at all.
The priority for these is the unrestrained thirst for allowing constructions with or without permission, occupying every urban space, increasing concrete surfaces and significantly reducing green surfaces.
The farce of urban renaissance with expenses over 2.2 billion euros is a clear indication for every citizen.
This program was aimed at propaganda, facade and not at all the long-term improvement of the cities.
It is not for nothing that today cities are being abandoned and are becoming unlivable and uninhabitable.
Municipal leaders are responsible for not taking preventive measures, for negligence and lack of good planning in emergency management.
There is a lack of reflection on the lessons learned in such cases of flooding in every season of the year.
Also, the ways of mismanagement of funds dedicated for emergencies or for the improvement of infrastructure conditions are direct criticism.
There is no transparency on expenses and allocated funds, compensation of every citizen and business for the damages caused to you as the law determines or for the lack of long-term planning for dealing with climate change.
The continuous floods are severely damaging the local economy, especially agriculture and businesses, worsening the lives of citizens.
I call for the alarm on the lack of support from the institutions, the weak reaction, the abandonment of the citizens as soon as the rain stops, the forgetfulness to compensate and on the preventive measures so that such events caused by the negligence of the leaders and institutions are not billed only to nature.
The government, municipalities and government agencies must urgently be accountable to the citizens and take their responsibilities.
The relevant institutions should undertake an investigation on the measures of the municipalities, on the funds for social protection and guaranteeing the life of every citizen in every municipality.
