PL submits the request to the HCSC: Audit the Municipality of Tirana!
The General Secretary of the Freedom Party, Tedi Blushi, has deposited in the KLSH the request for the initiation of the audit of the Municipality of Tirana in relation to the management of public funds.
In a statement to the media, Blushi said that it is already proven that 50 million euros in taxes from the citizens of Tirana, collected in 7 years by the Municipality in order to build 17 new schools, which would put an end to the overload and teaching with two shifts, have not finished at their destination.
" We will calmly wait for the decision and audit of KLSH to then follow all the legal steps, always respecting the protection of citizens' interest, in terms of transparency and accountability: Why were only 9 of the 17 promised schools built? Where did they end up? citizens' taxes?" , Blushi said, among other things, during his speech.
Excerpt from the statement:
As I promised, today I officially submitted to the High State Control, the highest institution of Public Audit in the Republic of Albania, which plays an essential and very important role in providing security on how public funds are managed and contributions are used of Albanian taxpayers, the official request for the initiation of an in-depth audit as soon as possible in the Municipality of Tirana, in the Directorate of Local Taxes and Tariffs, as well as in the General Directorate of Financial Management on the way of managing the income from the temporary tax for educational infrastructure.
It is already proven that 50 million euros in taxes of the citizens of Tirana, collected in 7 years by the Municipality in order to build 17 new schools, which would put an end to overcrowding and teaching in two shifts, have not ended up in the destination THEIR
The municipality of Tirana, in the official response that it sent to me after my request for transparency and accountability, has officially accepted the failure of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme for the construction of 17 new schools, through the temporary education infrastructure tax.
Based on the fact that the tax for educational infrastructure is extended in total for 10 years, as well as because in 7 years of its payment by citizens and businesses, the Municipality of Tirana did not build the 17 promised schools, I will address it very soon officially to the High Control of the State with a request for an audit to the Municipality of Tirana for the way of managing the income from the tax for the educational infrastructure, to find out the reason why the PPP scheme failed and why the taxes collected from the citizens did not go to the promised destination.
We will calmly wait for the decision and audit of the KLSH to then follow all the legal steps, always respecting the protection of citizens' interests, in terms of transparency and accountability: Why were only 9 of the 17 promised schools built? Where did citizens' taxes end up?
It is already a fact that with Erion Veliaj at the head of the Municipality of Tirana, millions of euros in taxes are wasted and their final destination is not the dignified distribution to the citizens.
