"Wrong, unacceptable", Albania and Russia 'clash' at the UN

The issue of Kosovo's independence has brought Albania and Russia into conflict at the United Nations. Moscow has repeatedly compared the situation of Kosovo with that of Crimea.

The Russian ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, has made the same parallel between Kosovo and Crimea as he said that the Albanians at the time when the Serbian war was fought in Kosovo, were not threatened by Yugoslavia after the latter had disintegrated, reports Euronews Albania.

Nenbzya went on to state that Kosovo's independence was declared by interim bodies, accusing the West of playing with double standards.

"By denying the people of Donbas in the liberated territories of Ukraine the right to self-determination, the Western delegations are demonstrating their scandalous double standards. The most vocal critics of the referendum in Donbas, Zaporozhye and the Hurston obelisks were, once at the forefront of support for Kosovo's independence, then declared that the territory had the right to leave the Serbian state if there was a real threat to the rights of Kosovo Albanians. would be seriously affected by the so-called corrective continuity, and that this was not just a statement, but the official legal position presented by Western countries to the UN International Court of Justice in 2008. At that time, Kosovo Albanians, however, were not threatened out of nothing, because Yugoslavia was no longer on the map, NATO bombed Serbia, it had foreign troops as peacekeepers in it. I want to underline differently from the situation in Crimea, LPR and DPR... and the people of Zaporozhye, in Kosovo there was absolutely no referendum, no free votes of the people there, it was only a declaration of independence, approved by the provisional self-governing authorities that exceeded their competences. At that time, this was enough for the West to recognize Kosovo's independence and confirmed that international law did not prevent it from declaring its independence., said the Russian ambassador.

The Albanian ambassador to the UN, Ferit Hoxha, reacted immediately after the statement of the Russian ambassador regarding the issue of Kosovo. Hoxha said that the statement made by the Moscow counterpart is wrong.

Hoxha said that the attempt to establish peace, such as the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, cannot be compared with the unprovoked Russian aggression in Ukraine. The Albanian ambassador said that no one can be deceived and divert attention from the war.
