Eva Buzo was not the first, who was the Italian lawyer who tried to swim from

Eva Buzo, the lawyer of Albanian origin living in Australia, was not the first to attempt to swim the sea line from Italy to Albania. Despite her will, Eva could not make it because of the health problems she developed after 20 hours.

The first to attempt the crossing from Brindizi to Vlora by swimming, was Paolo Pinto with the same profession as Eva. Even Pinto could not swim across the sea line.

He attempted the crossing in June 1985, an event which was described as historic since, calculating the distance of 73 kilometers, no one would have guessed that it could be crossed by swimming.

Pinto started the challenge at 10:00 on June 27, 1985, accompanied by a group of doctors and swimmers. In the early hours of the afternoon, Pinto showed health problems, but even the atmospheric conditions were not in his favor, as there was a strong wind that prevented him from swimming.

All went well until the early hours after midnight when he started showing the first problems after about half way.

Paolo Pinto, a law graduate, was from Puglia and lived in Bari. 47 years old at the time when he took on the challenge, he had a sporty physique, was 1.79 m tall and had practiced basketball. Later he dedicated himself to swimming.

38 years after Paolo Pinto, Eva Buzo, a lawyer by profession, took it upon herself to swim the coastline from Otranto to Vlora. But just like Pinto, Eva couldn't make it either.
