The procedures for the stay of immigrants who want to work in Germany are eased

The parliamentary groups of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP have agreed on the latest changes to the law on the immigration of skilled workers.

As the parliamentary secretaries Katja Mast (SPD), Irene Mihalic (Greens) and Johannes Vogel (FDP) announced, the law is expected to be put on the agenda of the Bundestag this week for a final discussion.

One of the changes made in the government's draft law is to allow asylum seekers to stay for work purposes. They should be able to enter the labor market if they have a job offer that enables them to live.

This is good for enterprises, which expect people already in the country to be able to work there, as well as for municipalities, which would be freed from bureaucracy and costs, explained Irene Mihalic.

The minimum income threshold is expected to be lowered

Vogel noted that the regulations apply only to asylum seekers in the process and with retroactive effect. The deadline is March 29, 2023, when the draft law was made public by decision of the cabinet. According to Vogel, further changes will be made to the planned "opportunity map".

Thus, the perspective of staying in Germany should be clarified for people who have found work in this country. In addition, the minimum income limit that allows labor immigration through the "blue card" will be further reduced, to around 3500 gross euros per month.

Mast explained that the coalition had also agreed on the final details of the planned law on initial and continued qualification.

This includes a tuition guarantee for all young people in Germany. Supporting and encouraging national potentials is the other side of the coin in attracting skilled labor. This too is expected to be put to a vote in the Bundestag this week.

With the change in the skilled labor immigration law, Germany's ruling tripartite coalition wants to significantly ease the immigration of skilled workers. In the future, foreigners from non-EU countries can come to Germany to look for work with a "chance card" based on a points system.
