Criminal amnesty approved in principle, 380 convicts released immediately

The Laws Committee has approved in principle the draft law on criminal amnesty, which is expected to benefit 380 convicts, who will be released immediately, while 900 others will receive reduced sentences.

Minister of Justice Toni Gogu presented the criminal amnesty bill to the Laws Committee, emphasizing that persons convicted by the Criminal Court will not benefit from this pardon.

On the other hand, Democratic MP Arjan Ndoja expressed his reservations regarding the amnesty.

The criminal amnesty is expected to be approved by the Assembly in the session of June 18.

The following benefit from criminal amnesty:

All women who have been sentenced to up to 4 years or less are released immediately.

All men who have been sentenced to up to 3 years or have less than 3 years left to serve are released immediately.

All men over 60 and all women over 50 are immediately released.

Juveniles, 18 years of age or younger at the time of the crime, are released immediately.

All convicts receive a 1-year reduction in sentence, women and minors receive 1 and a half years.
