A study by the Italian university "La Sapienza" has analyzed the impact of social networks on language over the last 34 years, based on 300 million messages and comments in English from 8 platforms.

The researchers observed that the use of short texts, poor lexis and hybridization of languages are the most obvious phenomena, where the language used often contains simple phrases and repetitions.

This linguistic evolution reflects the dynamics of social and cultural change that occur when two or more languages interact, creating new idioms as well. In general, digital environments have changed the norms of communication, making language more simplified and repetitive.
