An Afghan asylum seeker has been jailed for raping a 12-year-old Albanian girl while they were staying in a Home Office-funded asylum seeker hotel in England.

Sakhidad Ahadi, 25, who continues to lie about his age and was deemed 'dangerous' by the judge, was sentenced to twelve years in prison after raping the minor girl.

He had sought asylum in England, claiming he was shot by the Taliban when he refused to be drafted, and his father was killed by the country's rulers.

The young Albanian girl and her brother had been brought to the UK by their mother and the family was put up in the Queens Hotel, Crystal Palace – known locally as the 'Hotel Asylum'. Ahadi pleaded guilty to the charge of raping the girl between December 22, 2022 and January 1, 2023.

He claimed the minor consented to intercourse with him and he believed she was 19 years old, while his lawyer Lisa Wilson said: "The perception of age may not be so clear for someone who grew up in mountainous Afghanistan." .

The girl kept the rape a secret from her mother until she told a hotel security guard that she was afraid of Ahadi and the police were notified. When officers arrived, she told them she had been raped, and that's when the investigation began.

 "The sky has fallen on my head and destroyed me. We came to this country for safety and I didn't want something like this to happen to my children," said the girl's mother.

Ahadi continues to lie that he is only twenty years old, but Judge Dunne confirmed: 'Records from the relevant authorities show that he is twenty-five years old. He must serve at least eight years in custody before being considered for parole and will remain on the sex offenders register.
