Police in Fier strike again at the opposition, place the uncle of the DP

Fier police have placed 59-year-old Agim Hasaj, a resident of the village of Peshtan, under investigation after suspicions that he was carrying out illegal activities in connection with the May 11 election process. Hasaj is the uncle of the Democratic Party candidate for the Fier Region, Silva Hasaj.

According to the official announcement of the State Police, on the evening of April 27, at around 19:20, following operational information, the police services stopped and searched Agim Hasaj, as well as his vehicle. During the search, a notebook with notes regarding the electoral process was found on him. After questioning at the premises of the Fier Police Commissariat, Hasaj was released, while the procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further investigations.

Regarding this case, the political leader of the Democratic Party for Fier Region, Gazment Bardhi, has also reacted, accusing the State Police of pressure and intimidation against the family members of the democratic candidate. Bardhi described this act as a dangerous escalation of blackmail and institutional violence against the opposition.

" I strongly condemn every act of pressure and intimidation that the State Police, under the political influence of the government, is exercising against the family members of the DP candidate, Ms. Silva Hasaj. This is a serious act that endangers democracy and stability in the country ," declared Bardhi, calling on the OSCE/ODIHR and international institutions to closely monitor the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the Fier Police have clarified that the actions against Agim Hasaj were carried out in full compliance with the law and that there was no violation or political pressure. In its statement, the Police emphasize that it is completely detached from political entities and focused only on enforcing the law and guaranteeing order during the election campaign.

This is the second case in the Fier Region where opposition representatives face charges of electoral crimes. A few days ago, in Lushnja, Martin Leka was arrested, denounced for attempted vote buying, by offering a citizen 500 thousand old lekë in exchange for an identity card.

The Fier region is under the political leadership of Minister Belinda Balluku, whom the opposition has repeatedly denounced for interference and manipulation in the electoral process.
