Cardiovascular diseases, 8% of patients at risk for cardiac arrest

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in Albania and Europe. Specialist doctors say that in 8% of cases, patients with heart disease are at risk of having a fatal heart attack.

"They are and will remain the main cause of death in the Albanian and global population. While heart attacks, myocardial infarction are decreasing. As such, Albania is approaching the percentage that Europe had 20 years ago, which is somewhere around 7-8% of patients who suffer a cardiac arrest will lose their lives," said Aurel Demiraj, cardiologist at QSUT.

Given the recent case where an Albanian footballer lost his life on the field, doctors say there is no reason for alarm. According to them, physical activity remains the main factor in avoiding the development of chronic diseases, but specialists require that a rigorous protocol be followed for competitive athletes.

"The probability that a person will lose their life from sports activities compared to the benefits that sports actually have for young people is much better if they engage in sports activities. In our opinion, of the European Cardiology Organization and the WHO, young people who will perform ordinary sports activities do not need super-examinations. We are very aggressive in conducting an examination for those who engage in sports events," said Demiraj.

In all cases, doctors say that performing a cardiac ultrasound is important for citizens who suffer from diabetes, high cholesterol, or lung problems. According to official data from the IHP and WHO, 4 out of 5 deaths are due to heart attacks and strokes. 10 thousand people lose their lives every day in Europe due to cardiovascular diseases./ Tv Klan
