The American military plane crashes on the Japanese island with 8 people on board
A military plane with eight people on board has crashed on the Japanese island of Yakushima.
Officials said the remains of the CV-22 Osprey have been found on the island of Yakushima. Japanese broadcaster NHK said the Osprey was attempting to land at Yakushima Airport. The left engine of the plane had burst into flames.
The plane was thought to have departed from Yokota Air Base in Tokyo to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa.
The Osprey is an aircraft that can operate as both a helicopter and a turboprop aircraft. He has been involved in a string of fatal accidents over the years.
In August, another Osprey crashed in northern Australia during a military exercise for troops based in the country, killing three US Marines out of 23 on board.
In 2017, three Marines were killed when an Osprey crashed after clipping the back of a transport ship while trying to land at sea off the northern coast of Australia.
