"Police chief in the land business", Karamuço 'deconstructs' how the scheme functions

"Police chief in the land business", Karamuço

Criminology professor Ervin Karamuço says that some police officers continue to be implicated in crimes.

Invited to Euronews Albania, he said that there are state police officers who are mainly implicated in drug trafficking, protection of gambling, illegal call centers, prostitution and, most recently, the land business.

"There are very strong signals, suspicions, but also investigations, both from the AMP and from the prosecutors' offices that speak of specific individuals in the state police, who apparently have no fear and continue with old habits."

They still deal with four main things, drug trafficking, domestic and international, they are dealing with the protection of gambling, call centers, and even prostitution, recently we had the case of some Colombians.

Lastly, we also have the land business.

There are some prices that range up to 2.5 euros per cubic meter of soil, where some police officers agree with construction firms not to take it to the landfill to be dumped, they pay a 2.5 euro fine per cubic meter and dump it wherever they want.

"These are emergencies that need to be investigated. Some are also connected as shareholders in these construction companies ," Karamuço said.
