Court hearing on 'Sterilization' case postponed

The absence of the lawyer of the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, was the reason for the postponement of the case against him and his co-defendants in the "Sterilization" case.

Beqaj was present in the courtroom, while his lawyer requested the court to postpone the trial via email.

 Lawyer Ermal Yzeira informed the court that he is in another trial and is unable to be present at the sterilization trial.

Beqaj said he will try to find a second lawyer so that the trial is not postponed any further.

The court decided to fine the former minister's lawyer 30,000 lek for his absence and appointed another lawyer specifically for him. The hearing was postponed to April 30 at 1:00 p.m.

Upon returning to the courtroom, the lawyers claimed that they have contacted the National Bar Association, which will issue a statement on the situation, and that they will not continue the trial.

The lawyers asked the court to take measures against the prosecutor and to notify the head of SPAK. The court then drew the attention of all parties and adjourned the hearing to April 22.
