Plastering over tiles, dampness, doors that won't open, how the houses affected by the earthquake were rebuilt

Plastering over tiles, dampness, doors that won't open, how the houses

Fiks Fare denounced the condition of a house rebuilt after the earthquake, in the village of Fage in the Shëngjergj Administrative Unit in Tirana. The apartment started to be built in 2020, but although 4 years have passed, it is still not finished. The toilet tiles were plastered over, the window smaller than the place, the door bigger than the place left and wouldn't open.

"My old house was demolished in 2019, they would accommodate us at the school if I didn't accept. I stayed at my brother's apartment. They came and told me that we will build a new house. They started it in 2020 and it's not over yet. They left the works in the middle and not a single foot of worker is visible. It's been 1 year since they stopped these works. They didn't give me any letter, I don't know which company did the work," says the owner of the house, Mustafa Çedja.

He further says that his family had a 1 + 1 apartment. "They built the walls, the floor, but the house is full of moisture, they didn't do good insulation. The nested window is smaller than the window seat. The emergency door does not open, they opened it from the inside, but the door is lower than the corridor floor and does not open. The toilet tiles have been installed, but they have been plastered over. I want the house to be finished, because I'd rather have the broken one than this one," says Mustafai.

After the complaint, Fiks journalists call the administrator of the Shëngjergj Administrative Unit, Shpëtim Sina. He says that he knows this problem, as some work has been left undone. He contacted the family that he knows very well, and he has seen the situation. "The work was not done well. I also talked with the company that did those works. The firm is 'Tila Construction', it must be a subcontractor," says the Administrator.

"I will now take these from the firm to do the remaining works. We have also told the families to finish those works themselves, but they have not accepted", he adds, as the journalists inform him that the family is on financial assistance and they cannot do the works themselves.

Fiksi also talks with Mr. Lefter Tila, who also did the work in that apartment. He says that he himself is the third or fourth hand, "since there are other firms that have won the tender". He says that he has not been liquidated by those firms, so he has not completed the works. Journalists ask him about the mistakes, as he answers that there are some jobs left half done, but I will send the workers to do them.

Then he says that he himself came out with a loss from these houses, since the construction cost was greater than the value of 22 million Lek (old) that was tendered. Journalists let him know why he accepted it as a job, when there is a loss. He replies that he then received them and later the costs increased, plus the transportation of the materials to that village. TCH
