Albanian arrested in Romania for attempting to bribe border police with 500

An Albanian citizen who was banned from entering Romania attempted to bribe a border police officer in Timiş, but was arrested.

The incident occurred at the Stamora-Moravița Road Border Crossing Point, where three Albanian citizens appeared, traveling in a car registered in Albania.

During the check of the operational databases, the border police discovered that one of the passengers had an alert in the Schengen Information System (SIS), with the aim of refusing entry to Romania. During the additional checks, one of the Albanian citizens offered the border police officer the sum of 500 euros for the person with the SIS alert to enter the country.

The border police officer refused the offer and filed a complaint, which was registered with the General Directorate Against Corruption – Anti-Corruption Service of Timiș County and submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Timiș Court for further investigation. Police officers from the DGA – Timiș were delegated to carry out procedural activities, also executing an arrest warrant.

As a result of these activities, the Albanian citizen acquired the status of suspect and then defendant for committing the criminal offense of bribery. The investigation continues at large.
