Will the impasse be broken today? MPs vote for the speaker after nine failures

The Kosovo Assembly will reconvene today at 10:00 AM, in the tenth attempt to fully constitute the legislature. The process has stalled after the swearing-in of the deputies, due to the lack of consensus on the election of the Assembly Speaker.

The only candidate proposed for this post by the Vetëvendosje Movement is Albulena Haxhiu, who will be running for the seventh time in the race. In addition to the support of her own party, Haxhiu has also received the support of other major parties, including PDK, LDK and AAK.

VV MP and resigning minister, Hekuran Murati, called for the approval of the Assembly leadership during today's session. He stressed that further delay by parties that are not voting on the constitution has now become unnecessary.

"Any further delay is excessive. In the Assembly, power is shared among all parties, unlike in the government where only the ruling coalition takes positions. The Constitution has created a balance by imposing a kind of constitutive coalition before the ruling one," Murati wrote on Facebook.

He further explained that, according to the constitutional division, the president and one vice president belong to the largest party, one vice president to the second party, another to the third party, and two vice presidents represent non-majority communities.

Murati also mentioned that the secret ballot method, also suggested by the Constitutional Court, offers the ideal solution for overcoming this impasse and moving forward the democratic process delegated by citizens.

If the Assembly manages to be constituted today, this will pave the way for the formation of the new government and the full functioning of the institutions.
