Perversion of the "Honor of the Nation" decoration, by Gjergj Fishta to Ferdinand Samarxhi

by Ermal Mulosmani / Express

A few days ago, I noticed a piece of news about the decoration of the Albanian Television journalist, Ferdinand Samarxhi, with the high decoration "Honor of the Nation". This event has been happening for days, since the famous November 8 Party. From that day until today I am in a dilemma to write or not. A mind told me to let this stupidity and this hysteria of decorations degenerate into a banal oke and object of collective humor. Among other things, I would look a bit ridiculous myself turning public attention to a banality that no one takes seriously. In the end, the temptation to say "enough" to this institutional manipulation overcame the tendency to close one's eyes and laugh with laughter.

Until that day I thought that this order or decoration, with such a cruel and significant name, would be reserved over the years for the highest figures in the history of the nation. By the way, I was thinking that there could be in that pantheon, some 5 or 6 personalities from Skënderbeu, Mother Teresa, Ismail Qemali, Ismail Kadare, Ibrahim Rugova, Naim Frashëri, Gjergj Fishta, Adem Jashari, and such luminaries, of the pen or rifles that have put their stamp on today's Albanian national identity.

To get a more complete idea of this decoration and the people who have been rewarded with it, I searched online. During his first presidential term, he showed great respect for the decoration. In 1996, the only personality awarded was the well-known painter Ibrahim Kodra, an Albanian personality who could be included in any shortlist of names given to the nation. A little later, in the years 2002 to 2007, the awarded names are more or less deserved. There we find Gjergj Fishta, Petro Marko, Eqerem Çabejn, Odhise Paskali, Mirash Ivanaj, Vaçe Zela, Zef Pllumi or the famous engineer Ismail Ahmeti. The names speak for themselves. The dignity of the decoration has tried to be at the level of the personality of the beneficiary names.

But from 2015 onwards the hand was released. Every year 20-30 figures were decorated, which would inevitably lead to the devaluation of the decoration. A nation with 3-4 million inhabitants could not have so many oppressive decorations. The criteria were flexible, those who deserved it despised it, those who did not deserve it did not leave a stone unturned to take it. This kind of inflation would degenerate the value of decoration.

Until we reached Ferdinand.

Despite Ferdinand's devotion to the service of the flock of believers but more to their shepherds, the name of the decoration does not match me with his contribution to the Nation. Samarxhiu is a journalist of Albanian Television who worked in both times, even in the dictatorship when the Television was the tool of the atheist propaganda of the Party and in democracy when it turned into a center of servile and kissing power that changed bosses according to political seasons. At both times Ferdinand was there, the pet of fate who did not feel for the changes. No journalistic merit distinguishes Ferdinand from his colleagues who, by the way, do the farmer's show, the youth, or the daily television chronicles with devotion. Among all the VAT journalists, in all that giant structure, no one ever found out why Ferdinand was a separate department that took public television time to give to religious authorities. Some knew he was the messenger of beliefs in Television others like the messenger of Television in the Ministry of Religions. Ferdinand was known only for the walks in the Directors' offices to get TV time for religion through Ferdinand's forms that caused humor among colleagues and for his extremely professional mediocrity. Who could have been so fascinated by Ferdinand's journalistic qualities, the depth of his thought, the issues addressed, or the mastery of speech ?! What decoration should be invented for Petro Marko, Vangjush Gambeta, Fatos Lubonja, Teodor Keko or for Petro Latin, Xhemal Maton, Pali Kuken, Ndue Ukcamën, Stefan Gajon, Bujar Kokonoz, and many others if Ferdinand is the Honor of the Nation? How can Ferdinand Samarxhi have the same decoration as Gjergj Fishta and Eqerem Çabej? What kind of decorations does Rrok Mirdita, Hafiz Sabri Koçi, or Reshat Bardhi deserve when Fedinandi is the Honor of the Nation? Does the decorator have a little conscience about this shame?

Searching the internet I discovered that Ferdinand Samarxhi before receiving this high order after being decorated with another medal by the Presidency of Bujar Nishani, with the order "Grand Master". Click here and see the eulogies made by Bujar Nishani, then President in the motivation of decoration. If it is not this mockery of values I do not know what it is.

But Ferdinand was not satisfied. He is not just a "Grand Master", he is the "Honor of the Nation"! Why mo, the level of Ylli Bakë is Ferdi to be satisfied with so much? So he moved all the stones of our flock shepherds, from Janullatos to Baba Mondi, and secured the dream title. Everyone came to the Presidency to celebrate and took casual photos. Pending the next decoration, the Order of the Flag after two or three years.

That day the "Honor of the Nation" decoration died.
