Joe Biden will approve an additional $250 million in security aid for Ukraine, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced today.
Speaking at the US Ramstein Air Base, he said: "It will grow in more capacity to meet the evolving demands of Ukraine. And we will deliver them at war speed."
The US official also pointed to the Kursk situation as an example of how Ukraine was working to seize the battlefield initiative.
"The Kremlin's army of aggression is now on the defensive on its own turf, " he added.
The announcement comes at a high-risk moment for Ukrainian forces, which are advancing in Russia's Kursk region even as Russian forces threaten the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk.
Russian forces, which control 18% of Ukraine, have been gradually advancing east since Kiev's 2023 counteroffensive attempt.
The Kremlin has also said that the conditions for peace talks with Ukraine do not exist now.
