Trump-Zelenskyy call, White House reveals what was discussed

US President Donald Trump has proposed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Ukraine's energy infrastructure be placed under American ownership to ensure its security.

According to a White House statement, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Walz, Trump assured Zelensky that the United States has deep expertise in the electric power and utilities sector, which would be particularly useful in managing these facilities.

"American ownership of these facilities can provide the best protection for this critical energy infrastructure," Trump is quoted as saying, according to the Associated Press.

His proposal comes at a tense time, with growing concerns about the security of Ukraine's energy grid, which continues to face attacks and damage to infrastructure. The country currently relies on international assistance to maintain energy stability and repair the damage caused.

It remains to be seen whether Kiev will accept this offer and what the political and economic implications of such a decision will be.
