COVID-19 'blooms' along with tourism in France, authorities require

Tourism is booming again in France and so is COVID-19. French officials have "recommended" people return to wearing face masks, but have not renewed restrictions that would scare away visitors or reignite anti-government protests.

Many people seem to have welcomed the government's decision, while others worry that the necessary preventive measures may be needed.

Hospital admissions linked to the virus rose quickly in France over the past two weeks, with nearly 1,000 COVID-19 patients admitted to hospital each day according to government data.

Infections are also rising in other European countries, but France has an unusually high proportion of people in hospital.

French government spokeswoman Olivia Gregoire said this week that there are no plans to reintroduce measures to limit or impose conditions on indoor gatherings and other activities.
