A boat with migrants sinks in Tunisia, 34 people are missing

A boat capsized off the coast of Tunisia on Friday with 34 migrants missing.

The boat, which left Thursday from the Sfax region for the Italian coast, was carrying 38 people, while Fauzi Mashmoudi announced that four of the passengers were rescued.

According to him, all the migrants on board the boat were citizens of sub-Saharan African countries, a community targeted by Tunisian President Kais Sagitt a few weeks ago. The non-governmental organization Alarm Phone warned that 40 people are at risk of drowning in the central Mediterranean.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called for support for Tunisia, which is facing a severe economic crisis, to stem the flow of migrants to Europe.
