Suspended a few days ago, Trump warns: Tariffs will be reinstated within 2-3

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that his administration could reinstate reciprocal tariffs "within two, three weeks", suspended on April 9, The Guardian reports.

Speaking at the White House, the US president stated that "at the end of the day, I think what's going to happen is that we're going to sign good deals, and by the way, if we don't have a deal with any company or country, then we're going to put the tariffs back in. I would say in the next few weeks. Within the next two, three weeks."

On April 9, Trump “suspended” most of the tariffs he had imposed on almost every U.S. trading partner. His latest pronouncement creates uncertainty for importers and exporters as to whether they will face the 10 percent tariff originally announced or some completely new figure.

So far, key components of the global economy have resisted pressure from the Trump administration. The European Union has said it has no intention of changing its rules on value-added tax — a tax levied on certain goods at the point of sale in EU countries — or on agricultural subsidies.
