The Spanish National Police have arrested a 66-year-old Albanian man after he was caught transporting a significant amount of drugs in the city of Aranjuez, south of Madrid.

According to an official statement from the Madrid Police Headquarters, the arrest occurred on April 11, when a police patrol noticed a van performing a suspicious maneuver. Officers stopped the vehicle and noticed that its driver was displaying nervous behavior and incoherent responses, raising suspicions of illegal activity.

After a thorough search of the vehicle, police found more than 100 transparent plastic bags, hermetically sealed, each containing approximately 650 grams of marijuana. In total, the seized narcotics weighed over 65 kilograms.

The suspect was arrested at the scene as the perpetrator of a crime against public health, and was escorted to the police station. He was then sent to appear before the court to give an account of the incident.

The operation comes as part of intensified efforts by Spanish authorities to crack down on drug trafficking in the country and the networks operating on its territory.
