Fires in Gjirokastra, flames very close to cultural monuments

Summer fires endanger cultural monuments and cultural heritage sites in Gjirokastra, especially the Antigonea Archaeological Park.

"During this period, maintenance work has been carried out in this park, mainly to prevent overgrown vegetation, as in this season of high temperatures there is a possibility of fire risk, given the geographical position of this park," said Ardis Duka, director of DRTK, Gjirokastër.

In collaboration with the community of the Lunzhëria area, the aim is to prevent fires in the area where the ruins of this archaeological site lie.

"By cleaning all these monuments located in this park and informing all residents to avoid the possibility of fires in this park,"   Duka told EuronewsAlbania.
