SPAK registers 23 proceedings for electoral crimes

26 criminal reports have been filed with the Special Prosecution Office for suspected electoral crimes believed to be related to the May 11 elections, while SPAK has registered 23 criminal proceedings out of them.

According to the response sent by SPAK, following a request for information that BIRN sent regarding reports and investigations into electoral crimes, it turns out that one of the reports was filed during the period October-December 2024, while 25 others were filed from January onwards.

Meanwhile, SPAK announces that it has begun an investigation into election-related criminal offenses against three individuals. None of these cases have been requested to go to trial.

The Special Prosecution Office published on February 20 the strategy for investigating and preventing electoral crimes in the May 11 elections. The strategy indicates SPAK's intention to investigate in real time problems related to vote buying, the use of state resources, and the involvement of organized crime in the electoral process.

To enable the implementation of the strategy, an investigative group has been established that will consist of a central structure and investigative groups operating in the field to monitor suspected situations in real time; to identify individuals and members of organized crime involved in electoral corruption; as well as to monitor the use of the budget, investments and public infrastructure, which are not allowed to be carried out during the election period by special entities.

According to recent research conducted by BIRN, problems with the misuse of institutions and public administration by the "Rama" government, in violation of the Electoral Code, continue even during these elections. Reporter.al
