Violence against a 14-year-old at the Police Station? / The Helsinki Committee raises the alarm: He was punched, the police did not take him to the doctor! To be investigated

Violence against a 14-year-old at the Police Station? / The Helsinki Committee

The Albanian Helsinki Committee (AHC) has reacted with concern regarding a case of suspected violence against a 14-year-old minor escorted to Police Station No. 1 in Tirana, on April 12, 2025.

According to the AHC, the minor JG was stopped by police officers near Kodra e Liqeni, after he was suspected of throwing capsules. His parents claim that their son was physically and psychologically abused during the escort.

The police station's documentation states that the minor had a hematoma near his right eye, but he was not examined by the police station's doctor. Despite this, the police officers denied any act of violence against him. Only after the intervention of his parents was the minor taken to the Trauma Hospital, where, according to the medical report, he had suffered "Contusio capitis" (head trauma) and punches.

The Committee also notes that in the register of accompaniments for minors, corrections in names and schedules have been found, while the psychologist appears in the register as present at the police station, although she has only met the minor in the hospital.

AHC considers this a case of violation of the rights of the child, emphasizing that the minor was not provided with the necessary medical and psychological assistance, in violation of criminal and procedural legislation for minors.

JG's parents have filed a complaint with the Police Supervision Agency and the Tirana Prosecutor's Office. The Helsinki Committee calls on the authorities to treat this case seriously and investigate it as a matter of priority to ensure justice and prevent similar cases in the future.
