Italy will face the hottest weekend of the year so far, according to the thermometer
Weather that has moved in from Africa is causing prolonged extreme heat across Italy that will peak this weekend.
Temperatures are likely to exceed 40 degrees Celsius in southern Italy as this weekend is predicted to be the hottest the country has seen so far this year, writes Euronews .
Maximums of up to 43C are expected in the south, as well as the two main islands of Sardinia and Sicily, the most affected regions.
From August 10 to 11, temperatures are also expected to rise to between 39 and 40 degrees Celsius across central and northern Italy. Northern cities including Bolzano, Ferrara and Bologna will not be spared from the intense heat.
Forecasters say the heat wave will also be accompanied by high humidity for many people, increasing the possibility of physical discomfort and risk to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children.
