Israel: We have repelled an attack by Houthi rebels

The Israeli military said on March 23 that it shot down a rocket launched from Yemen before entering Israeli territory. This attack represents an escalation of the situation between Israel and the Yemeni rebels, the Houthis, who are supported by Iran. Yemeni rebels claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the group fired a ballistic missile in the direction of Ben Gurion airport, near Tel Aviv, military spokesman Yahya Saree said.

Saree said the attack led to the suspension of air traffic at the airport for an hour and a half. However, the authority that manages airports in Israel said the airport was not affected by the attack. The spokesman for the rebel Houthi - a terrorist group declared by the United States - without providing any evidence, claimed that the rebels on Sunday had carried out attacks on the American aircraft carrier, USS Harry S. Truman, in the Red Sea.

The Houthi rebels have recently vowed to escalate attacks, including attacks on Israel, in response to attacks carried out by the US earlier this month, which constitute the largest US military operation in the Middle East since President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January.

US attacks on Yemeni rebels have left at least 50 people dead. Also, the latest attack by Yemeni rebels comes after they have vowed to expand their targets in Israel, in response to the resumption of Israeli attacks in Gaza that have left hundreds dead in recent days./ REL
