NATO chief warns Europe: It must spend more on defense

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned Europe that it must increase defense spending further. 

He said NATO has "robust" plans to address this issue and protect member countries.

According to Rutte, spending targets are key to the functioning of the alliance in this increasingly dangerous world, adding that some allies need to spend "significantly more", foreign media write. 

"We must act faster and more forcefully - there is no time to waste," he declared. 

Focusing on the conflict in Ukraine, Rutte said that "the stronger Ukraine is on the battlefield, the stronger it will be at the negotiating table."
