German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius paid a visit to Kiev on Tuesday to show support for Ukraine in its fight against the Russian attack that began three years ago. German officials said the visit was intended to assure Ukraine that it will continue to enjoy support. Pistorius will meet with senior Ukrainian officials.

He visits Ukraine just days before the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and amid questions about how U.S. policy toward Ukraine could change under the new administration. Officials from several regions of Russia reported on Tuesday multiple drone attacks, including the Saratov region, where according to Governor Roman Busargin two industrial complexes in the cities of Saratov and Engels suffered damage.

The base of Russian bombers is located in the area. Last week, Ukraine attacked a fuel depot that supplies this base. The governor of the Oryol region, Andrei Klychkov wrote on the Telegram platform that Russian air defense systems shot down 17 Ukrainian drones in his region. He did not say any damage or casualties from these attacks. Rostov Governor Yury Slyusar said 14 drones were destroyed overnight, while officials in Voronezh reported that several Ukrainian drones had crashed without causing damage.

The Russian Defense Ministry also said it had shot down six U.S. ATACMS missiles and six British Storm Shaw missiles in the Bryansk region, as well as two others in the Black Sea. According to the ministry, there were no casualties or damage. The Ukrainian military said Tuesday it destroyed 58 of the 80 drones russian forces used to attack 11 different regions.

Ukraine's air force reported damage to residential buildings, business and vehicles in Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kiev, Sumy and Zhytomyr from the remains of downed drones. Ukrainian air defense systems also destroyed Russian drones in Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odessa and Poltava, according to Ukraine's air force.
