"Let us not forget the strength that Germany has when it stands united ," Scholz recalled in his speech and added: "It was and remains the honor of my life to serve as Chancellor of this Germany."

He emphasized the importance of civil behavior among democrats and maintaining respect in politics as a value that must be protected.

“Democracy doesn't mean that we all have the same opinion – but that we have a sense of common belonging,” he said.
