May 5, National Martyrs' Day

Martyrs' Day originated on May 5, 1942, when Qemal Stafa, who through his activities became a symbol of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, was killed. In honor of this day, the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, the Speaker of the Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, the Minister of Defense, Pirro Vëngu, the acting Mayor of Tirana, Anuela Ristani, and the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, paid state tributes at the 'Mother Albania' memorial in Tirana.

The Head of State honored their sublime work for the homeland, while conveying a special message to the youth.

" On May 5, Martyrs' Day, we bow before the courage and sacrifice of those who gave everything for the liberation of Albania. Their values, bravery and dedication to freedom are a sacred heritage. We have a duty to pass on this flame of patriotism to the new generation, eternally honoring their memory ," writes the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, on his Facebook profile.
