From the maritime agreement with Greece to the Rama-Soros connection, Berisha speaks about the Greek media

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in an interview with the Greek media outlet "LiFO" spoke about Greek-Albanian relations and his political return, shortly before the national elections on May 11.

In the interview with LiFO, Berisha claims that the EEZ agreement that his government negotiated with Greece was the best possible and accuses Rama of blocking it, acting against Albania's national interest.

We met him a while ago in Athens, as part of his election tour in our country, which was much quieter than Edi Rama's noisy rallies, although he gathered many of his supporters who came to listen to him, writes LiFO.

But Berisha himself seems much more conciliatory today than he was in the past and only raises the tension when he talks about his political opponent, Edi Rama.

"I am very happy and very optimistic that we will get rid of Edi Rama's government, which does not respect any law, any rule, any criterion, any standard. Can Greek-Albanian relations be better, in the interest of both neighboring peoples?" we ask him. "Absolutely," he replies, "they can be better, there is no reason why they should not be better and I am deeply convinced of this. One moment. Problems between neighbors always exist, but during my presidency we reached a treaty of friendship and cooperation in 1996 with President Costis Stefanopoulos, which provided an answer to almost most of the problems we inherited."

The Berisha government indeed had a good relationship with the Costas Karamanlis government and this had borne fruit, as at that time the "Agreement between Albania and Greece on the Delimitation of the Continental Shelf and Other Maritime Areas" was signed, which was considered a significant success for both.

The agreement was on its way to ratification by the parliaments of both countries, but after the Greek elections, George Papandreou came to power and the then Albanian opposition, led by Edi Rama, who is now Prime Minister, appealed against the Agreement to the Constitutional Court of Albania, which resulted in the agreement being disregarded and not implemented.

"Edi Rama was the man who, according to my deep conviction, acted against the national interest of Albania, blocking an agreement that I am absolutely convinced was the best it could have been, it was a winning agreement for both sides ," says Berisha.

Berisha foli edhe për sanksionimin e tij nga SHBA-të, duke u përqëndruar te lidhja Rama-Soros-Blinken.

Thirdly, Mr. Minister, I will not ask to come, to remove, to annul your decision. I will sue you for defamation in an international court. And I did what I said, I started in my own way, judicially and with the media. "I started working with the American media.
