Irreplaceable role in the process of its liberation and independence, Kosovo closely follows the elections in the USA
The American elections are being followed with interest in Kosovo, where the role of the United States is considered irreplaceable in the process of its liberation and independence. On the day of the United States presidential election, citizens in Pristina told VOA that the bond between the two peoples remains unshaken regardless of the election result, although they say they have a special kind of bond with the democrats who led the campaign for the liberation of Kosovo in 1999.
Asked by the Voice of America, the citizens say that they do not expect deep changes in the approach of the new American administration towards Kosovo, but they hope for a greater involvement of the United States in closing the open issues of Kosovo, especially for the normalization of relations with Serbia.
"America has always been our ally and will be no matter who wins there. For me, the happiest day of my life was June 9, 1999 when, with the influence of America, we were freed and are here. I don't believe that there can be anything bad either (Donald) Trump or (Kamala) Harris, I believe that both are good but for Kosovo America is America, in the end whoever is president, America is America for us and we it seems to me that we are the biggest supporters in Europe and in the world of the United States of America", said Hajrush Redenica.
"Since the war here, every president who has been there has not had any change, everyone has been the same for Kosovo, even (Donald) Trump has been ahead, I believe it is the same for Kosovo", said another citizen, Isa Gashi .
"I think that both parties, both Democrats and Republicans, have shown credibility and deserve thanks for the work they have done so far. We were helped by the (Bill) Clinton administration, which was a Democrat, but we were also helped by the (George W.) Bush administration, which was a Republican. So these two parties have shaped us as a country and we owe them both. I hope that the Democrats will still be better for us and I would like to win Mrs. Kamala Harris for another reason that women also come to power because they also know how to lead maybe even more successfully than men in many cases" , said Izet Zhuja.
"The American policy towards the world will be unchanged, it also depends on the person who will lead the next four years, but for Kosovo we hope that the American policy towards us will not change. That's why we have great faith, we wish everyone the best and let the one the people love be elected. I really wanted the influence of the USA to continue to be active in solving the issue that has become a mess for so many years, it has the power, strength, knowledge, justice and I hope for the best that they will do for Kosovo in continuity", said Gani Berisha.
"Kamala Harris is the continuation of the Democrats, we are the child of America, but especially of the Democrats. Now maybe even (Donald) Trump can do something more but there is a risk that he will break things quickly. I also think that the Albanian lobby there is stronger among the democrats, it has a greater influence on the democrats, but in any case, it cannot change American policy towards Kosovo that much", said Xhafer Thaçi.
The citizens surveyed by the Voice of America express hope for the continuation of the support of the United States for the future political processes in Kosovo, including that of Euro-Atlantic integration./ VOA
