Russia orders arrest of Meta company spokesman

It is reported that Russia has ordered the arrest of the spokesperson of the company that owns the social network Facebook, Meta, accusing him of promoting terrorism.

The warrant for Any Stone was made public on November 26 by the Russian news website Mediazona, which Russia's Ministry of Justice said had issued it in February 2023.

Stone, who could not be reached for comment, became Russia's target because of a change in Meta policies in March 2022, about a month after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The change in Meta's policies allowed calls for violence against Russian occupiers, including President Vladimir Putin, to be made on its Facebook and Instagram platforms.

Meta's two main platforms, Facebook and Instagram, were banned in Russia shortly after the start of the invasion of Ukraine in February of last year./ REL
