How many flights were canceled by global IT outages worldwide

A global cyber outage has caused the suspension of flights, work at banks, hospitals, media and other companies.

As a result, around 3,340 flights have been canceled worldwide, or around 3% of all scheduled services, according to aviation data company Cirium, the BBC writes .

This is the total number of cancellations, which means some may not be due to IT disruption.

Texas-based cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said Friday that the reason for the outage was unrelated to a security incident or cyber attack.

The company said it is working to fix the problem, although the effects of the cyber outage have caused the cancellation of many flights in the United States, Europe and Asia.
