NATO Secretary General warns of long-term confrontation with Russia
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has issued a strong warning to members of the Western alliance, stressing that Russia is preparing for a long confrontation with Ukraine and NATO countries.
During a speech in Brussels, Rutte stressed that some alliance countries have not yet reached the defense spending target of 2% of GDP, and added that spending will need to increase significantly to meet the challenges that may come.
"We are not ready for what is coming in four to five years. It is time to switch to a wartime mentality and turbocharge defense production and spending," Rutte declared. He warned that NATO countries must prepare for a long period of tensions and increase their commitment to security and defense, to cope with threats coming from Russia.
