There are many drivers who want to have a personalized license plate .

British motorists spend millions of pounds on them every year and the Treasury has raked in billions from the sale of private plates since they were launched.

But what is the number plate that motorists are paying millions of pounds for? Number '7' was sold at a charity auction in Dubai at the weekend for a record 55 million Dirhams - which is around £5 million more than the previous record held since 2008.

The buyer spent a whopping £12m to acquire the number 7. Emirates Auctions sold the number during the 'Noble Numbers' charity event held in Dubai on Saturday.
