The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during a meeting with the leaders of the Department of Former Political Persecuted Persons, expressed his gratitude and respect for the politically persecuted, emphasizing the important role that this group has played in the establishment and development of the Democratic Party and in the protection of values such as freedom of speech, faith in God and love for the homeland.

Berisha : The greatest respect for you, for all members of this martyred stratum wherever they are, in Albania, abroad.
The stratum of the politically persecuted is with its heritage, morality and values, which the DP protects and shares with others.
It has played an essential role in this political force from the first days of its establishment until today.
The extraordinary problems inherited from the dictatorship, despite all the joint efforts, have still not received the deserved response.
And one of the main goals of this meeting is to ask you to draft the new program of the DP, since the 2006 agreement that we had with the politically persecuted, an agreement accepted point by point as it was presented, that agreement in some aspects has been exceeded and a review of all the obligations that society has towards you is required.
I have said and I say that this is a major moral and legal obligation of Albanian society towards this stratum.
Today, perhaps half of Albanians may not realize that hundreds of thousands of buildings, that railways and other works, that millions of tons of minerals are the work of slaves that the communist regime imposed on the politically persecuted, the prisoners, the internees.
No one should think otherwise except for a great moral debt to you.
Here in Tirana, and I do not have the entire inventory, but there are thousands of families sheltered in buildings built by the politically persecuted and the political prisoners.
Block after block. Two parallel blocks surrounded by barbed wire with soldiers, the prisoners were brought in there and built.
These are true.
And all this, why, because you stood for the values that today's free society shares. For free speech, for faith in God, for love of the homeland, for the Western vocation.
So, in this context, the DP program for the persecuted, the internees, the prisoners, the shot, will be completely resized.
The obligations of Albanian society towards this stratum will be recognized, as they have been recognized to a certain extent, and will be fulfilled.
Yes, there can be no true social peace without giving the deserved answer to the problem of the politically persecuted and the landowners. No.
