Malltezi: The Berne Convention regrets that its recommendations were ignored,

The head of the Environment Department in the Democratic Party, Jamarbër Malltezi, has accused Edi Rama and the government of ignoring the Bern Convention and deciding to destroy Narta and the Vjosa delta for personal interests.

In a statement, Malltezi says that Rama prioritized his pocket and bag instead of the environment.

MALTEZI'S STATEMENT:

In recent days, the Berne Convention expressed strong regret and deep concern that its recommendations were ignored by the Albanian government and continued work, destroying the protected area of Narta for the purposes of the vested interests of Edi Rama and the oligarchs close to him.

Unfortunately, without analysis of alternatives, without discussions about the location, risking flooding, risking habitat destruction, risking a decline in population numbers, as well as the risk of air traffic to migratory birds, Edi Rama imposed his will, based on his pocketbook and on no scientific or environmental reasons.

For these reasons, environmentalists express their deep disappointment that Edi Rama prioritized his pocket and bag instead of the environment.

What happened if a year or two ago, Edi Rama declared Vjosa a national park? He did not include the Vjosa delta, which in any river is the most biologically important part of the river. He ignored and changed the law on Protected Areas, changed the map of Protected Areas, precisely for the interests of his own pocket.

As a result, it put Albania in major legal trouble, by not respecting the International Conventions to which Albania is a party.

I call on all environmentalists, the entire population of Vjosa, to resist Edi Rama's plans to destroy environmentally protected areas for the sole purpose of enriching himself and a handful of oligarchs around him.

We need to confront this bandit government.
