Shehu: Closing the Parliament today is a criminal offense

By Tritan Shehu/

A letter from Spiropal on behalf of the regime, without any explanation or collegial decision, distributed late last night announces that the parliamentary session will not take place today.

This is completely contrary to the program of the Assembly, announced and prepared, its regulations.

In the democratic world, no one would dare to do such an anti-constitutional and anti-legal act.

In addition to this in the attempts at "coup d'état", seizure of power of the Parliaments.

This is a serious violation of parliamentary rights.

Even the Eastern regimes do not dare to do such an act, at least formally.

This speaks of the "agony" that our democracy is going through.

For the deep denigration and violation of the Parliament, the laws of the Constitution.

For the great fear that has gripped the regime towards the opposition.

For free speech, even in the Parliament hall.

This shows how far this regime has moved us away from true European democracies, the rule of law, and the equal weighting of powers.

How far this regime is taking us towards Eastern autocracies and dictatorships.

The only model orienting them, for the autocracy of Tirana.

This is a tragic danger for the country of our people.

A risk that must be faced now without any hesitation.

Albanians have had for centuries and have deeply preserved in their "genes" the European and Western aspiration, as the only survival alternative.

And they will know how to defend it in the face of this obscurantist regime.

There is no other way!
