EU Ambassador, Silvio Gonzato: Elections, key for Albania's journey towards

The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, closely followed Sunday's electoral process by visiting one of the voting centers located on the premises of the Academy of Arts in Tirana.

In a statement to Euronews Albania, Gonzato stressed the importance of these elections for the country's European future. He recalled that this is the first electoral process after the opening of negotiations with the EU and the launch of the first group of chapters, known as the "fundamental chapter", which is related to the rule of law and democratic standards.

"These are the first elections to be organized after the opening of negotiations with the European Union and the launch of the first group of chapters, which we call the 'fundamental chapter', the one related to the rule of law and democratic standards. The conduct of elections in a fair, free and transparent manner is directly linked to Albania's progress in this process," Gonzato declared.

The Ambassador underlined that he and other diplomatic representatives of EU member states are on the ground to closely monitor the progress of the elections. He stressed that monitoring is not limited to voting day, but extends throughout the entire electoral cycle.

"The electoral process is not just about voting day. It is the entire cycle, from the preparations, the campaign, the way election day is administered, and then the management of the results. For all of this, we also rely on the final report of the ODIHR mission," Gonzato said.
