Begaj's message to MPs: Start a new period of cooperation and dialogue in

President Bajram Begaj addressed a message to the members of Parliament today on the occasion of the opening of the new parliamentary session.

Begaj appealed for the continuity of the European Union integration process, the development on May 11 of a fair and secure electoral process according to OSCE-ODIHR standards,  the increase in the quality of democracy, economic and political stability, and sustainable development.

MESSAGE:

"With the beginning of a new year and the resumption of the work of the Assembly, I wish to begin a new period of cooperation and dialogue in the service of Albanians in the country, in the Diaspora and in the region. Albania has already taken decisive steps towards European integration. The year that has passed marked a historic moment in its journey: the opening of technical negotiations with the European Union. This important step in the integration process is the result of continuous efforts for progress and reforms, which have not only taken a lot of energy and dedication, but have also given more strength, confidence, optimism and inspiration.

In every step we have taken, the key to success has been clear. It lies in constructive political dialogue and inclusiveness.

The Albanian Parliament has an important role to play in achieving this major objective. It must contribute to deepening reforms that align our legislation with the acquis communautaire.

The role of the Assembly is also irreplaceable for improving the quality of justice and the fight against corruption, for economic and territorial well-being and development in respect of the country's natural resources, for healthcare, for strengthening education and scientific research at all levels, as well as for adapting to technological innovations and innovation. These are just some of the main challenges, while many others remain to be brought to the parliament hall with arguments, clarity and cooperation to find solutions. The reforms undertaken must be followed step by step, services must be improved without losing focus and without neglecting priorities.

The continuous work for the rule of law, economic development and social justice is work to build a stronger, fairer and more integrated Albania in the European family.

Geopolitical situations remind us that we need the quality of democracy, economic and political stability, and sustainable development, not only as a goal in itself, but also in function of the role of Albanians as a factor of peace and stability in the region.

Albania and Kosovo as states, and all Albanians, cannot but be the most reliable allies in the region of the United States of America, NATO, and the European Union, because this is our historical obligation.

I express my gratitude for giving the Albanians of the Diaspora the opportunity to be involved in the political life of the country and to contribute with their votes to the common good. The new parliamentary session coincides with the elections on May 11. It is understandable that the political agenda of the elections is in the center of attention.

Elections are the most important event in a democracy. They test the maturity of political forces and institutions, so let's try to give the country a fair and safe electoral process, where alternatives compete, where voters are respected, where votes serve to choose, where the winner reflects modesty and responsibility, and the loser self-restraint.

I invite you to carry out this process with prudence, peace, and respect for democratic values.

I express my belief that we have every opportunity for the elections to be held in accordance with the law and according to OSCE-ODIHR standards. This is not an option, it is the obligation of the political class towards Albanians. The quality of the elections must overcome any division and prevail over any party interest.

This objective must be shared and non-negotiable. Along with best wishes for good work in this new parliamentary session, let us welcome the opportunities that have opened up on the horizon, build on the achievements that unite us, and be inspired by the models that carry patriotism, vision, peace, and kindness.
