30 years since the exodus of Albanians to Italy, Meta: Reflection on a dignified

President Ilir Meta has recalled the exodus of Albanians on August 8, 1991, when about 20,000 Albanians fled to the shores of Italy.

In a Facebook post, Meta writes that the landing of Albanians on the shores of Italy proved to the world the tragedy and misery of the most oppressed people on the continent. Meta has called for a reflection on the sacrifices of the Albanian people to build a better future, away from depopulation, as the biggest drama happening to the country.

"Like today 30 years ago, on August 8, 1991, about 20,000 Albanians landed on the shores of Italy, in search of freedom and hope, witnessing to the world the tragedy and misery of the most oppressed and isolated people of the continent.

The ship 'Vlora', with all its symbolism, strong emotions and vivid memories that it brings back, invites us for a deep reflection on the extraordinary human sacrifices, in the name of which we must work, to build a more future good and dignified for our citizens, especially when depopulation is the biggest drama that is happening in the country ", writes Meta.
