Two Metropolitans of the Orthodox Church visit Archbishop Janullatos in hospital

The Metropolitan of Korça, His Grace Joani, and the Metropolitan of Amantia, His Grace Nathanaili, visited today the "Evangjelismos" Hospital where, since January 3, the Archbishop, His Grace Anastas Janullatos, has been in critical condition.

Their Graces met with Anastasia Kotanidou, Doctor of Pneumology and Director of the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, to express the interest of the Holy Synod of our Church in the progress of His Beatitude, as well as thanks and gratitude for all the care and love shown to him. At the same time, they conveyed the prayers of the entire Albanian Orthodox people for Archbishop Anastasios but also for the medical staff, who with integrity and professionalism continue their efforts to rehabilitate his health, despite the aggravating factors.

They also met at the Hospital with the Bishop of Kruja, His Grace Anastasios, Father Spiridhon and Father Haralambis, who are accompanying the Archbishop, expressing their spiritual solidarity with them. During their stay in Athens, the High Priests also visited the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Grace Ieronymos, who visited Archbishop Anastasios in the hospital from the first days, and continues to monitor the progress of his health. They expressed their gratitude and for the love of the entire Church of Greece for Archbishop Anastasios, expressed through their constant prayers.

The Archbishop's health deteriorated in early January while he was admitted for specialized treatment in Athens. A few days later, he underwent surgery and was admitted to intensive care. Before being hospitalized at Evangelismos, the 95-year-old, who has a complicated medical history, had shown symptoms of the virus. He was initially admitted to a hospital in Tirana.

However, doctors reported that after his health deteriorated, it was decided to transfer him to Greece to receive specialized medical care. He was transported from Albania by a Hellenic Air Force vehicle. The transport was carried out by a C-27 aircraft. He was accompanied by a doctor and two nurses. The aircraft landed at the Elefsina military airport at 19:34 on Thursday evening and immediately afterwards the Archbishop was transferred to the “Evangelismos” hospital.
