Swiss expert: Prices will increase massively in Albania

Albania has seen a significant increase in the number of tourists, but this development will not come without consequences. According to Swiss Balkan expert and travel agency operator Marco Wipfli, the country is expected to face a bleak future, with prices set to rise massively in the coming years.

In an interview with German media, Wipfli explained that the increase in tourist numbers is mainly due to Albania's low prices, but he predicts that this could change quickly. According to him, accommodation prices in southern Albania, for example, will increase significantly. Apartments that in 2023 had an average price of 25-30 euros per night will now be sold for 100-120 euros in the summer months of 2024.

In addition to rising prices, Wipfli also warned of other challenges, including problems with infrastructure and environmental protection. The construction of a new airport near the Vjosa River, one of the last wild rivers in Europe, has caused controversy, with environmentalists opposing the project.
