Campaign Code of Ethics signed, banning bullying and AI-manipulated content

Political parties competing in the May 11 parliamentary elections signed today at the premises of the Central Election Commission (CEC) the Code of Ethics, a document that aims to preserve the integrity and democratic standards of the electoral process.

This Code commits political entities to respect the principles of integrity, transparency, privacy, security and fairness during the campaign, guaranteeing equal conditions for all candidates.

Manipulation and false content is prohibited.

The document prohibits the use of fake accounts, automated bots, and trolls to influence voter opinion, as well as cyberbullying, defamation, and baseless accusations against political opponents.

An important innovation of this Code is the prohibition of content manipulated with artificial intelligence (AI), including audio, images and videos, that distort or falsify reality for candidates, officials or parties involved in the elections.

Political entities that have signed this Code also commit to immediately removing any material that violates the rules set forth therein.

By signing this document, the CEC aims to establish new ethical standards in election campaigns, preventing manipulation and guaranteeing a fair electoral process.
